2) Google loves sites that have a lot of links pointing to them because this means other webmasters hold your site in high regard, and Google assumes this means the content is useful. And naturally, if you create a useful site, other webmasters will link to it because this makes them useful to their visitors (thereby developing site loyalty), and they gain credibility and authority because they're associated with you.

So how can you get free content for your website?

How do I know if the quality is good?

It's a process of natural selection. The better the article submission, the more often it will be published, so it's in the author's interest to write and submit articles of the highest quality. Of course, this doesn't always happen, but in most cases, you'll be reviewing the articles before you post them anyway, so if you discover one that's not up to scratch, don't use it.

Increasing Your Web Site Traffic : Passive vs Active Online Promotion

Your website needs visitors, that means you need to promote your site to attract traffic. You have 2 general ways in which you can do this – passive promotion, or active promotion. As you'll see, passive promotion will give you a greater return on your time and money – if you give it time!

Let's say you opened a dry cleaners. If you place an advert in the paper, that is active promotion. You write and pay for an advert, and people reading the paper that week get to know about your business. If you want to continue promoting your business in that way though, you need to keep renewing your advert.

If, instead of placing an advert in the paper, you put up a permanent sign in the local town, that would be passive promotion. Once you have paid for the sign and got permission to put it in that location, it will continue to promote your business for months or even years to come, with no further input from you!

Generating hits to your website can also be done actively or passively. Active promotion includes things like PPC (Pay Per Click), banner advertising, adverts on classified sites etc. These all cost (either time, money or both) and last for a limited time. They certainly work but you have to keep working at promotion to keep getting the visitors.

Passive promotion means that once you have an inbound link to your site, it's likely to stay there generating traffic for you, freeing you up to do other things.

There are a number of passive online promotion methods:

Reciprocal linking
Sponsoring other sites (paid for inbound links)
Forum signatures
Article submissions
Blogging
Let's take a look at each of these in turn.

Reciprocal linking

A reciprocal link does exactly what it says on the tin! You link to another site, and they reciprocate by placing a link back to you. As other webmasters are also trying to get traffic to their sites, there are always people willing to trade links. They key here is to exchange links with quality websites that are on topic. By that I mean sites which have something in common with yours. There is little point in a link from a site specializing in disco equipment, if you sell hearing aids! Choose your link partners carefully and build them steadily over time.

Sponsoring

A reciprocal link is great, but a one way inbound link is even better. Once you have a visitor to your site you want to keep them, you don't want them to click a link and head off to see your competitors. Therefore one way links are even better than swapping links with other sites. There are plenty of sites which will link to you for a fee. Again make sure you are getting value for money. Any site where you are paying for advertising should be on topic, high quality, and getting a decent level of traffic. Get some facts and figures before putting up any cash.

Forum signatures

Forums can be very useful tools. While blatantly linking to your site within posts will be frowned upon as spamming, there are ways of getting traffic from forums. The key here is to use a signature. Most forums will allow a small signature at the bottom of your posts. In your signature you want a very brief description of your site and a link. The 'secret' now is to become an active member of the forum. If your posts are interesting and informative they will be read. Try posting about things you know that other readers will be interested in. Keep your posts on topic, reply to other people's posts in a helpful way, and you will become respected as an authority on your chosen subject. Whenever someone reads one of your posts they will see a link to your site. If they like what you've written there is a good chance they will click on your link! Additionally, forum pages get picked up by the search engines so use your keyword in your posts and titles and you may also get extra traffic from Google and the others!

Article Submissions

Like forum posts, articles you have written can have a signature (otherwise known as a resource box) with your link. Many people are scared of writing articles due to lack of experience or confidence but it's really not that hard. Just write about subjects you know well, and are related to the content of your site. Aim for 1000 - 1500 words. Make sure they are well structured, avoid the first person, and include relevant facts and figures where appropriate. Once you have written (and checked) your article you want a way of using it to generate leads. You can submit to article directories. These are websites which host thousands of articles. Webmasters and newsletter editors can search these directories and if they like your article they can place it on their site, on their blog, in their newsletter etc. The rules are that they must include your resource box and so every time someone uses your article you get a one way link! Again a quick search on Google will show a whole host of article directories but try these for starters: iSnare, GoArticles, EzineArticles, ZapContent.com.

Blogging

Finally we come to blogging. Unless you've had your head in a paper bag for the last couple of years you can't have failed to notice the upsurge in the blogging community. A blog is like an online journal, or diary. The reason they are such a powerful tool is that by their nature they are text heavy, and constantly being updated. This makes them very popular with the search engines which like sites that are fresh and full of textual content. It also means that visitors tend to come back for repeat visits to see what the news is! A blog is very easy to start and there are loads of free online blogging tools. Just so a search for 'blog' on Google and you'll find plenty including Google's own www.blogger.com

A blog will often get high rankings in the search engine rankings and therefore generate a lot of passive leads. Starting a blog couldn't be simpler, you just start writing. Here are some tips though, to get you off on the right foot. Firstly your blog wants to be on-topic. If your main site that you want to promote is about 'home based businesses' then that is the subject you want to blog about. Start posting at least a couple of times a week about 'working from home'. Write about your experiences and expertise with working from home, about great home business websites you have found, about changes in the law which might affect home workers etc. The key is to write little and often, write relevant and interesting posts that people will want to read. It almost goes without saying that you want a link to your main site from your blog, but there is an extra advantage. If you write interesting and useful content on your blog, other blogs and websites will link to your posts. As your blog becomes well known as an authority on your subject you will find more and more webmasters and bloggers link to you, and therefore the traffic to your blog, and to your main site increases!

Passive vs Active

These are a few of the ways that you can generate passive, residual traffic and more traffic means more customers! These techniques however take time. You cannot build an established blog overnight. It will take time for your reputation to grow on the forums you frequent. Your reciprocal links will increase slowly as you build them. Use these techniques to slowly increase your sites exposure over time. Active promotion such as PPC and banner advertising can give your site a quick initial boost while you're increasing your site's exposure, but these passive techniques will pay off handsomely over time. Most of these ideas take a certain amount of effort but the reward is traffic that comes to you - rather than having to be sought out. Remember, there are no short cuts to anywhere worth going!

Earlier we setup an affiliate sign up template page. It’s easy to get affiliates to sign up to your programme. All you do is get the potential affiliate to sign up for a clickbank account of their own. Now the link you use to get them to sign up to their own clickbank account is as follows.

All you need to do is replace the “affiliate word”, with your own clickbank nickname. What this does is it activates clickbanks affiliate link. So if someone signs up using the previous link with your nickname, you will receive commission for clickbank if the person signs up for the full account. So if your refer someone and they activate their account fully (activation fee $50), you will receive $10. Also you will receive a commission from clickbank for every sale they make with their own product in the future. Roughly this will work out around .10c for every 10 sales they make.

By then creating a link on your affiliate signup page to this form, your affiliates will be able to receive their own unique affiliate linking code for your website

Once a potential affiliate enters his/her clickbank nickname and clicks submit, the system then generates their own linking code. This links from their site to yours, showing that the visitor was sent by them.

Now you can use this affiliate programme if your budget is tight but I personally use a different programme and here is why I don’t use the programme outlined above

Firstly anyone can become an affiliate of yours. That means that if one of your hard working affiliates is promoting you and an interested individual sees his unique affiliate link to your website, he can just substitute your first affiliates link with his own, then buy your product. Your affiliate loses money which was rightly theirs. Not a good start.

What about someone who you get to your site? Well they can just buy through their own affiliate link and cut you out of some profits that were rightly yours as you got them there in the first place.

Thirdly, you don.t actually know who any of your affiliates are because they don.t have to register with you to become an affiliate. Its easy to work out the affiliate code they.ll need so they go off promoting you.

Also your affiliate can’t actually see how many visitors they are sending to your site. All they know is the commission their making.

It is for the above reasons I use a programme called easyclickmate . This article is a quick overview of some methods of traffic generation and their advantages and disadvantages. It is the goal of any website of the internet to get traffic to the site, to be seen. One of the problems is the internet is now so huge that there are more pages on the internet than people on the planet. How can you get hits and a flow of traffic to your solitary page. If your generating a page for general interest or fun without traffic your goals are not met. In the case of creating traffic for a business website it is literally a case of have traffic or have your business die. It doesn't mattter if you have the best website site, with great content, fantastic pictures, audio, video and a multimedia experience better than disneyland, if no one comes it is for naught. The internet is not like field of dreams "if you build it they will come", no they won't. Google has about 8 billion pages indexed on the net and its growing everyday. If you create a new site your chance of having a visitor just stumble on your site is about the same as winning the lottery. How then do we change the game so people can at least appreciate the work put into a website, or in the case of a business or affliliate website visit to make a decision to buy? The following are some of the most common methods.

Search Engine Optimisation.

Basically this means you optimise your pages with the right keywords in the right places so that the search engines index your page as having great CONTENT in relation to key search words. The simple fact of the matter is that your chance of being on page one of the most popular search terms is next to nil. You will find thanks to the American domination of the internet that the most popular searched keywords tend to be American personalities, like Oprah Winfrey, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, etc. (Wonder why there are so many gossip magazines? The internet is no different, gossip is one of the most popular topics) If you were to create a new website about one of these people thinking hey I will get some of that traffic for myself, I'll do an Oprah Winfrey site, content rich, etc your chance of getting to the top is practically nil, why, firstly because you have 1000's to millions of competitors and your chance of being optimised not only with great content but with relevant links and relevant links with the important keywords will be nil as well. All is not lost, it is possible still to create a niche website and get rated in the first page e.g. type "vegetable gardening on hard clay" into the google search engine and you will see I am rated number two and three. One a blog and the other an article, probably a boring topic for most people but for gardeners a nice niche topic. Its not a university degree on the subject but the basics on the subject and it rates high because the site's content strongly matches the search phase vegetable gardening on hard clay, type in gardening or vegetables though and the site is lost from the radar. In summary one of the first methods of traffic generation is to have a site geared to keywords and content that will draw in search engine traffic. Remember though the more competative the keywords the harder this will be. Some companies specialise in generating rich content and links from other like rich content site targetted to high rating keywords and charge big money for the privelage $50,000, etc, why because free traffic to websites from search engines means big chance for profits.

Adwords and the like.

Another method of traffic generation is to buy it. Yahoo, Google, etc sell advertising space. In the case of Google adwords you can pay to have you site on the first page but this can be an expensive proposition, $1 or more a click, to mere pennies. Why do people choose this method. Firstly it brings targetted traffic to your site. The advantage of targetted traffic is these people are looking for your exact topic and thus more likely to stay on your site and it results in higher conversion rates. The problem is although Google says its rewards content rich sites with lower click costs the truth is the better ad wins, not necessarily the better or most relevant site. To explain this further, google will lower your cost of your clicks and even raise you in the list if more people are clicking through - its says its rewarding you for having a relevant site - the truth though is its rewarding you for having a great ad that people want to click on. Advantage of this method is you are guaranteed traffic - disadvantage - its costs and takes time to tweek your ads so they work at maximum efficiency. However I know of businesses that survive on google adwords alone for advertising and make a very good turnover on their business products so it works well for them. But one again the greater demand for the keyword, the greater the number of competitors there are. There is one way to can cut this disadvantage down though, choose to limit your target audience to a particular country, region or even city. Obviously the target audience is further limited by language. Not much point in advertising your english content site in Mongolia, firstly because not many mongols speak english, but secondly because not many have internet access either. If your paying money for advertising on the internet make sure you are reaching the right audience for your ad.

Surfing Programs.

Another way to generate hits to your site is to join numerous surfing programs, like traffic swarm, instantbuzz, fast freeway, traffic pods and many more. These will generate HITS to your site. In fact you can buy thousands of hits and get them in a very short space of time but although normally cheap e.g. $9 for 1000 hits, it has a myriad of disadvantages. Firstly you are only advertising to other surf members, many of them are competitors, already in the same programs as you, not really interest in your ad. I've found that you can build a downline and contact list from surfing programs, however keep the ad or website display very basic. With a 15-30 second counter on most programs people just aren't going to read a saga even if its mindly blowingly good, they are going to scan and then click the letter or number required. It that 15 seconds you've got to grab there interest. You can do this by free offers, appealing to their needs or wants, often in this case a single page with an e-mail enrollment form it the best bet for getting results. One distinct advantage of most of these programs though is if you build a downline with them the amount of free traffic you get increases. You can surf for traffic at your leisure if you can't afford to pay for it, you might even find a program that perks your interest. Also in this category can be including banners, banners exchanges, etc which work on the same principle of you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. Longer term methods.

I call these longer term methods because they require a greater work on your part, however they can result in great traffic results. One of these is article writing. Articles submitted to articles sites like goarticles, article fever, etc act as a magnet for search engines. Content rich and quality controlled if you get an article listed in one of these forums/ libraries you have the ability to have a constant stream of traffic through attached links. Why do you think I've written this article. To generate traffic. Yes I like helping and educating others and I do create not for profit websites and articles but most are to generate traffic. Another long term method is to contact and link to other similar sites. You can do this by requesting other webmasters to do this or create you own sites and link them to one another. Another long term method is to create an op-in e-mail list and encourage people from you list to visit your 'great' site with your 'unbelievable' offer. Creating a blog like this doesn't hurt either. In summary I don't reccommend any method over any other. Each has advantages and disadvantages. It can depend on what you are advertising. On the whole though I don't think you can go wrong if you do all the above methods as a wholistic internet campaign. If you do over time your internet presence will increase as will your total traffic.

Building Links To Your Site

Over the years there has been lots of discussion in the SEO community regarding building links to a web site. The debate is particularly heated at the moment, as Google rolls out its "Jagger" upgrade.

Let's start with what we mean by inbound links, also called backlinks. These are links from other sites to your URL, which direct the surfer directly to your site when the link is clicked. The basic premise is that if you have high ranking sites linking to you, then you must yourself be important and have valuable content, and hence you should rank highly. The way in which Google ranks sites is called Pagerank and can be seen as a green line on the Google Toolbar representing ranks 0 to 10. As Google states

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

So, back to the question "Does having inbound links to your site help your site's credibility", and hence visibility when searched. The broad answer to this question is "yes", but with a number of very important caveats which we will cover in the other sections.

OK, so backlinks are basically good, especially from high ranking sites, so how do we get them? The first way, and best way, is by having such great content on your site that all these high-powered sites want to link to you. Downside to this method is that it is slow and takes lots of time and effort on your part. But don't worry, when anyone tries to build a level playing field there are always people out there that will provide work-arounds.

The first one was reciprocal links, whereby you say that you will link to a site if they also link to you. That's stretching the original idea, but it's not too bad because how many of these sort of links are you going to set up? Well, actually, some people have created thousands of such links between sites, maybe not what Google initially intended!

But then, due to the emphasis Google placed on link popularity, the concept of link farms was born. These are sites that link to other sites purely to increase the links to the site. Pay a few dollars and get thousands of links to your site. Too good to be true - you bet. Google hates link farms and sees these links as spam and will actively penalise sites that use such links. So, the first rule of linking is do not use link farms. The second rule is do not use lots of reciprocal links, Google can easily check this and the "Jagger" update that is currently rolling out seems to be particularly focused on penalising sites with lots of reciprocal links. The jury is still out on whether "themed" links will be treated in the same way. "Themed" links are links to sites that are very closely aligned to the same primary topic as your own site. If you think about this, it makes a lot of sense and is much more likely to be based on real content-based linking.

We believe another area Google is focusing on is how quickly your site gains backlinks. If your site is one month old, it is hardly believable for it to gain 100 real backlinks in that time. So, the third rule of linking is to ensure your links build in a realistic way. In all of these ways, Google is trying to ensure fairness and that's why new sites are often held back in the results pages.

Finally, we should mention the sites that will improve your ranking - the Directories. There are many of these, but the most important is DMOZ, also known as the ODP. DMOZ is the Open Directory Project and is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors. It gets the name DMOZ from the acronym for Directory Mozilla, as it is administered by Netscape Communication Corporation. It's Pagerank is 9 and hence a link from DMOZ will help your site. We recommend that everyone visits http://dmoz.org and attempts to get listed, it's free. The Yahoo directory is also important and free for non-commercial sites, but $299 a year for business.

So, in summary, by far the best way of getting links is by having a quality site that other people want to link to. So again, we are back to content. If you provide quality information, over time, more and more sites will link to you, and if they are in the same business sector as you, so much the better.

A Simple Guide to Analyzing All Those Web Traffic Ideas - Part 1

There will be a lot of people unhappy about what I am going to reveal in this article. However, I think it is time somebody spoke out about what is happening on this wonderful medium we have come to know as the internet. What I am talking about are the "sharp" practices engaged in by people offering all sorts of dubious marketing plans.

Confusion, deception, hype and downright dishonesty abound on the world wide web (www). I should know. Like tens of thousands, perhaps even hundreds of thousands of people before me - I've been caught. And it is highly probable that so many more will continue to be caught in the future unless something is done to stop it.

The www is the new frontier for those who seek to make money from inexperienced people. It's quick, it's easy and it is so impersonal. Specifically, I am talking about the selling of high priced junk information (often referred to as "reports") to unsuspecting customers.

<b>It's almost the perfect robbery.</b>

Newbie website owners beware! There are hundreds of con-artists and specious operators lurking out there in cyber space. They are just waiting to pull you into their clutches.

How do they do it?

OK. What is the one thing that every new website owner has to have? Answer - traffic. Pure and simple. If you don't have traffic, you might as well not even have a website - unless, of course, you just enjoy looking at it yourself.

Your quest for traffic demands that you seek knowledge from those who profess to have it. And that is the root of the problem. It seems that every second website seems to be selling information on how to improve <b>your</b> website.  With so many experts, who do you trust?

Oh you can read the sales "blurb" (yeah, I know, my site has "blurb" too. All websites use it) and be wooed by all the so-called "facts" but who is offering the information and does it really work?  How do you separate credible information from useless junk? There certainly is plenty of <b>junk</b> out there.

There appears to be an increasing number of self-styled gurus professing to know <b>exactly</b> how to drive that precious traffic right through your site. In fact, if you believe everything they promise, you will need to install a set of traffic lights on your site just to control the massive flow. (Or so they would have you believe!)

Your quest for knowledge can very quickly send your credit card into debt hyper-drive, or, I should say, hyper-dive! Just enter your details and zap - here it comes. It's the answer to all your www dreams. (You wish!)

Let's examine some of the things you need to be vigilant about:

The information <b>you pay for</b> might be:<ol><li>- widely known among experienced net users - but not by you. If you want to pay for this information it might just be worth it to "fast-track" your education. In other words, you will be paying for fairly basic information but you <b>will</b> learn something from it. In that respect, the information can be good because you can learn from the experience of others.  Many "special reports" and "secrets revealed" fall into this category. However, some clearly do not. (PS: What type of credit card do you have?)

<li>- available <b>FREE</b> all over the www. All you have to do is look. "Seek and ye shall find". If you are lazy and you need to be spoon fed then there are any number of hunters out there who will line you up in their sights. The information is probably current and will work but why pay for it when it is so abundantly available at zero cost? (PS: What is your credit card number?)

<li>- "old hat" information. The internet moves at such speed that what worked several years ago or even several months ago now <b>doesn't work at all</b>. This type of information is <b>totally useless</b> and should be avoided. Often this ancient information will even contain broken hyperlinks. Now that's a real turn off. It says so much about the quality of the information being provided. In reality, this type of information is just a collection of worthless old junk, like a shoe with a hole in its sole. (PS: When does your credit card expire?)

<li>- a precursor to spending even more money. This little technique will whet your appetite just enough to entice you to spend lots more money. Some "wealth creation" seminar presenters use this technique. It's just bait for the "real" information which, of course, is far more expensive. "Caveat emptor" - <b>let the buyer beware!</b> (PS: What are the three ID numbers on the back of that credit card of yours?)

<li>- Steering you to other sites offering "fixits." This is something like point 4 above, except the information provider suggests you go to a third party (a "friend" - more on this in Part 2) to purchase more programs or more specific information. Often these recommended sites can offer expensive or time consuming programs. (PS: Now, just press submit.)

<li>- credible and/or valuable. This is information of the best kind. Usually it will contain "cutting edge" ideas that are currently working on the www. However, your ability to source this information  from the many traps above will range from difficult to almost impossible.</ol>The biggest trick used by con-artist "gurus" is their ability to "dress up" the information they are offering to make it look like something new or different. It's a bit like the old pyramid selling schemes that do the rounds with monotonous regularity (or the letter offering you millions of dollars from Nigeria just for giving them your bank details! Can you imagine anybody doing that? Well, plenty do!) Plenty buy the "dress-ups" too. Same old information, different name.

Another thing you need to be aware of is the amount of "fluff" or packing that surrounds the real subject matter.  Often there can be several pages on the main idea and several dozen pages of near useless information to make it appear bigger.

I recently purchased a report of just 19 pages. It contained just one dubious idea that could have been presented adequately on about half an A4 sized page. The rest of it was pure packing and completely useless twaddle. The cost? I hate to admit it - $39.95 US. Ouch!

I have even heard of some training manuals on offer claiming that they contain five hundred pages (plus) of "cutting edge" information. You would think that represents a lot of information. It was certainly advertised as a "definitive" web-building and traffic steering "master" tutorial. I later learned (from another source) that the pages are only printed on about one-third of the available space and that the font size would be very beneficial for extremely sight impaired readers. That makes it a <b>very expensive</b> tutorial. I'm pleased to say that I didn't buy that one.

You need to be wary of these things.

Just to recap - <b>Part 1</b> of this article outlined some of the so-called "secrets" of website traffic being offered on-line and what you might expect for your money. If you missed Part 1 you will still be able to view it by clicking on the links appearing in the resource box at the end of this, <b>Part 2</b>.

Here are a few little hints that might let you know, in advance, that the "special report" or "secret information" you are being offered to "build" your website and "flood it with traffic" might not be so special or secret after all:<ol><li>- Ask yourself this: If the information is so special or secret why is it being sold to anyone and everyone who has $19.95 or $29.95 or $39.95 or whatever price is being asked? With the speed that information moves on the www, pretty soon it will <b>be no secret at all</b> - even if it truly was in the first place!

<li>- A fancy name: The fancier the name the greater the probability that what you are being offered is just a cobbling together of widely known, <b>FREE</b> or old information. The thing to watch out for is the tying together of a well-known name or technique with an obscure one. (I could name examples, but that would <b>really</b> make certain people most unhappy.)

<li>- Repetition of negative terms such as "no BS": I assume everybody understands what "BS" is. If, in fact, it were not BS, why would anybody go to such great lengths to say it is not? My advice is to stay away from anything using this type of description. If it walks like a duck and it looks like a duck and it quacks, well... chances are <b>it really is a duck!</b> Trust your instinct. Other things to be wary of are poor spelling and grammar. That should basically suggest to you that the quality of information will be just as poor.

<li>- Have a time limit attached: Usually the time limit is, wait for it... midnight on <b>exactly</b> the same day that you are viewing the information. Funny that! Now why do you think that might be? You guessed it - to push you into purchasing now rather than later. This is impulse buying. Strike while the iron is hot (note: in this case, you are the iron!). Try this: If you are so impressed by the offer come back the next day and see if the offer is exactly the same. Midnight again, huh? Hmm...

<li>- Have a bevy of </b>"bonus"</b> incentives attached: Now why would this be? It's to make the offer look BIGGER than it really is. Often the bonuses are nothing more than flimsy bits of information. Sometimes they are just sales pitches from other marketers. If the offer you are looking at does not stand by itself without bonus number one through to five, six or seven (I have seen up to 12), why purchase it? This is almost an admission by the copyright owner (or the cobble-together owner) that their product cannot stand alone for the price that they are asking. <b>
It's a trick!</b>

<li>- Any outrageous claims: These are designed to appeal to basic human greed. <b>Greed can often blind you from reality</b>. Anything that makes promises like "guaranteed to make you $10,000 in the first three months!" or "your hit counter will almost explode with the extra traffic!" are appealing to your greed and not your common-sense.</ol>In reality there is <b>no magic formula</b> to building a website and directing traffic through it. Like any business venture it takes time and effort. After you have expended that time and effort then yes, the time you spent and the effort you put in may well decrease or even become exponential. But </b>don't hold your breath</b> in the meantime.

Even testimonials and recommendations from other "independent" people and internet marketers should be viewed with a certain amount of caution. Many testimony and recommendation givers are "affiliates" (remember the "friend" from <b>Part 1</b>?) which means they earn commissions from the sale of the product. Why wouldn't they endorse something they stood to make money from?

The best testimonial or recommendation check you can do is to seek out the person giving it and ask them if they have any association with the person who is using the testimony or recommendation. Ask if they are an affiliate or if they have a vested interest in the product. You can do this quite innocently and nicely. If they are genuinely impressed by the product and what it did for them, they will probably be pleased to answer your enquiry.

Just a little word of caution here - if you are asking somebody for help don't put them through a trial. A simple email will suffice.  Keep it short and to the point. Don't be too concerned if there is no reply. People get dozens, even hundreds of emails every day now. I know I do.

It would seem that there are just as many self proclaimed "experts" out there on the internet telling others "how to do it" as there are those actually "trying to do it." Sure, there are some credible people offering good advice (most often at quite a price too) but there are so many others offering absolute rubbish. How can you differentiate? The simple answer is that often you can't - until you actually get what is being offered. Then you realize. Oh-oh! Too late! It's junk!

If you don't get what you believed you were paying for you have every right to ask for a refund. However, this is not a method of receiving good information for FREE. Falsely asking for a refund on something that really did help you will bring your own integrity into question. <b>Being fair is what it is all about</b> - fair information for a fair price - an even two way exchange.

In summing up, website "newbies" are soft targets for the latest brand of snake-oil cyber salespeople. They are certainly out there. Think of it this way: you are searching for the Kings and Queens and Aces in the deck. Along the way you will find fives and threes and twos and sevens. You will even come across the Jokers. It's up to you to try and sort them out.

My advice is this: examine the information being offered then wait a day or two and come back to it. If it still looks as good to you the second time round and doesn't reek of some of the descriptions above, consider buying it. (I would even give the same advice for people visiting my own site.) Like me, you will soon "wise up." Along the way you will probably have to give your credit card a nice little "top up" to pay for your mistakes.

Purchasing e-books, special reports, secret documents and the like to learn how to increase traffic to your website is very subjective. The only way to measure the value of what you receive is to assess it against the "blurb" (see <b>Part 1 </b>) used to promote it and the price you paid for it. As I mentioned above, <b>both parties must be fair</b>.

Just be wary.

If you know a website owner struggling to develop their site, this information could help them save a lot of money, not to mention that awful, sinking feeling that you have been duped. The money saved can then go towards some positive steps to develop their site. Heaven knows there is enough junk out there that will do the reverse. Some of it is sitting in my in-tray.
